RIP Chris Gray - Qwakrz Member News

As many of you will already know, a long time member of 206info, Qwakrz, sadly passed away recently.

Chris had been part of 206info for many years, and he will be greatly missed. Not only was he considered to be one of the most knowledgeable contributors to the site, but he always made time to answer questions and help other members out.

"Chris died suddenly and extremely quickly at home on Wednesday 6 May 2009 around 7pm. In fact he was eating his tea and on 206info at the time."

On behalf of 206info I would like to send my thoughts out to Chris's family and thank them for passing on the information; you should all be proud of who Chris was and I'm sure you are. He helped a great deal of people on 206info.co.uk and no one ever had a bad word to say about him.

RIP Chris - you won't be forgotten

206info.co.uk - 2009 Site News
With the site going from strength to strength the number of meets, both regional and main, have increased with yet another sucessful RS Tuning meet occuring in April and the member number hitting over 12000

RS Tuning

April 2009 saw yet another main site meet happening at RS Tuning for a rolling road day. Yet again with 18 cars turning up, varying in spec and even make, the figures were varied and in some cases suprising. Yet again, convoyers up to Leeds were awake at the crack of dawn and some even managed a 5 minute journey there.
Unlike the last RS Tuning meet, this one was combined with a night out in the town centre leading to mischief and giggles that only 206info members can offer.

Check out the Meet Photo Section for all Leeds related pictures and diaries.

Here's a few taster pics for you:

Main Site Camping Meet!

Time has come for the arranging of the main site meet in August on the 7/8/9th. This year, as before, it will be held in Buxton, north. Bookings are well underway for the weekend, so get in there and prepare for some fun and games. We're all hoping its not raining this time round!

Coming up...

Main Site Hotel Meet

In light of the recent RS Tuning/Leeds night out meet, planning is well underway for the next one so get involved by clicking on this link

French Car Show: 14th June 2009

With the record number of cars turning up at French Car Show 2008, it was only appropriate that organising got well underway for the 2009 show. A great meet to attend and a chance to show everyone the numbers that 206info muster. Click here for a chance to make numbers greater than previous years.

Welcome to 206info.co.uk - End of 2008 Site Meet

New Moderators

We have undergone a radical change throughout 2008. With the enormous increase of members we have increased the number of moderators to help look after and maintain the website. There were lots of interest from members for the role of moderators and after careful deliberation, we decided that DaveGeorge, xmetbluepugx and SAB206 fitted the role perfectly. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their interest in helping and taking 206info forward!!

RS Tuning

In December, we arranged a very successful main site meet at RS Tuning for a Rolling Road day. Click here for the aftermath thread. We had 18 (Yes 18!!) members turn up and 15 cars on the Dyno Dynamics Rolling Road, with some surprising results. It was an excellent day with members coming from near and far, some even waking up at 4:00am to convoy to Leeds - now that is commitment!!

We are looking to arrange another Rolling Road meet at Watch this space for more information and updates.

Big thanks to everyone for attending and making it the biggest turnout outside of FCS and TRAX this year. Last but not least, thank you to Paul at RS Tuning for his time and knowledge in the Rolling Road day.

Here are some pictures from the RS Tuning meet.

Thank you for reading.

November update Site News

What's this I hear you all say? An update on the front page?!

Yes - its been too long, this year has been a busy one for all of the site staff and I can only apologise for the length of time it has taken to get some fresh content up here. On a positive note though, 206info as a community forum hasn't stopped or even slowed, in fact its gone from strength to strength, and is busier than ever.

The fresh new look is almost a year old now (how time flies!) and everyone seems to be making good use of the new features and layout, and I'm glad to have seen features such as the garage really take off.

Not too long ago we hit a milestone that we didn't imagine reaching before the new year - 10,000 member sign ups. 206info has genuinely become a global site now, with site traffic coming from all around the world.

2008 - The Year of Millions of Site Meets!

Well maybe not millions, but it definitely feels that way. Its great to see so many people organising local meets near them, and seeing so many of these becoming successful. Its also great to see friendships being made, I know of 2 206info'ers that are even moving in together!

I can still remember the first ever 206info meet up back in 2005 - have a look at the archived news story here.

Regular Summer Camping Meet

Following the past 2 years success, the 3rd annual summer site meet was as good as it gets! About 28 members and 16 206s’ turned up in ‘sunny’ Buxton for a fun packed weekend. Once again it was great to see some of the newer members there, and also to spend time with the others we’ve previously met at other meets!

The meet enjoyed the full glory of the best of British weather - grey skies followed by a downpour, a thunder storm, and flooded tents! Even with the terrible conditions through the night, all that was needed was some food and shelter to keep everyone having a good time. While the mud meant we didn't risk shuffling the cars around too much for a line up, we did get some photos of the weekend.

The Saturday - don't let those blue skies fool you, that's as good as it got!

Hursty's bonnet - everyone left their mark!

Look out for next years’ summer site meet, this time we will be hoping for some sun! For more regular site meets based more regionally, check out the Site Meet section where you will find sub forums allocated to each square inch of the UK!

Nottingham

Earlier in the year we had a slightly warmer site meet in Nottingham. Members came from near and far to attend and we all stayed in a rather plush Premier Inn hotel. The meet consists of meeting up, going bowling and just socialising. Unfortunately, the bowling alley was fully booked and we had to make do with drinking and playing pool. Afterwards, we all got back to the hotel and got ready for dinner. We ended going to the rather nice restaurant pub/restaurant next door to the hotel. We completely took over and combined about 5 tables together to accommodate us! Finally, we headed out, at which point we realised that StorminNorman was a little bit drunk and she didn't make it out. It was a good night with lots of laughs and lots of fun.

Monthly Kent Meets

Our members regularly meet up at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent where a good turn out is always guaranteed! A few of the regular members are very handy at sorting out any problems with your cars and are more than happy to help, and are normally armed with an endless supply of toolboxes!

The September meet had an exceptional turn out with 14 206s’ showing up!

The regional meets are a great way to get to know other members on the site and I will assure you, they are all a friendly bunch, and don’t forget; everyone was new at one point, so dive in and come along to a meet near you!
Special thanks to Katy for organising the Kent meets, and to all the others who contribute towards it!

Updated Forum Rules
It is coming to the attention of the staff that there are numerous threads condoning illegal modifications and procedures on the site. As a public forum which can be read by anyone, including the police, the staff cannot condone such topics.

The main subjects are:

Illegal modifications - These include but are not limited to:
- HID lighting kits.
- Selling illegal products on the forum is also unacceptable, unless clearly stated it is for off-road use only.
- Illegal registration plates and show plates on the road.
- Illegal tinted windows....etc.

Illegal Insurance procedures - These include but are not limited to:
- Un-declared modifications.
- Fraudulent policies ie, driving on someone else's policy

Speeding
Mentioning breaking the speed limit. Everyone saying "...of course I was on my own private air strip" doesn't cut it, I'm afraid.

MOT
Giving advice on how to bend the MOT rules and other such 'advice' is also not acceptable.

Anything seen as an 'illegal comment' by the staff will be removed and a warning given to the poster. Persistent offenders may have further action taken against their account.

One of the major problems the forum had been experiencing in the past was repeat topics and members refusing to search for information in our forum archives. We have taken simple steps to bring the number of these cases down, by making new members aware of our searching procedures, and updating the way things are done on the forum. While it hasn't cured the problem, it has brought the number of occurrences down. We will be updating our FAQ and How To sections in the near future to help with the problem further.

For new members we do recommend you have a read of the Intro section which will give you an overview of the sites functions and how to get started. You can view this by clicking here.

In addition, please have a look through General Rules and Guidelines for more information.

Thanks For Reading

2008 has been a good year for 206info, and all of the staff are aware that its our members that make the place what it is, so for that we thank you. We hope you all continue to contribute to the site and help it to grow even further, and who knows, soon we could be at 20,000 members!

Take care as the temperature drops over the wintery season, its always the time of year when most crashes are reported on the site.

There are still several site meets happening before the end of the year, so be sure to check out the meets section to find one near you.

We're all glad to see so many members taking initiative and their own free time to organise different things for the site - many of our meets are now completely arranged by members that just want to help out, and most of our new discounts have been negotiated by regular members simply to pass on savings to everyone else. This community spirit is what keeps us going, even simple things like the popular shot of the month competition have been great for 206info in 2008, so thank you to everyone involved.

Once again sorry for the delay in getting an update on here, the next one wont take so long - I promise Very Happy

Summer meet 2007 Site Meet
This years famous 206 summer (even though it was raining 99 % of the time!) camping meet was the most successful one yet with a turn out of 15 206's and 28 members (and we even had a cc show up)

Most members arrived around Saturday lunchtime at the Buxton cold springs campsite, and were greeted by a few 206info members who had camped there from the night before.

Everyone had a great time and enjoyed putting usernames to faces, as well as showing off there 206's!

Luckily the poor weather this summer did have one positive effect - we were prepared! The gazebo turned out to be a well needed addition to the meet this year, and kept the food on the BBQ dry.

Thinking of having your own meet? Have a look in our site meets section on the forum and see if one is being arranged near you, and if not, how about hosting your own!

Last month saw 206info triple its site traffic from January this year, and with increases like that, its no suprise that theres so much going on. We'd like to thank all the members for making info the place that it is.

Thanks to Djcarter and Iain Lovatt for their contributions to this news article.

FCS 2007 Site Meet
206info members attend the French Car Show at Rockingham Motor Speedway - Sunday 15th July 2007.

This years FCS was 206info's first and we had a new record turnout. We had 13 cars on show, beating the previous number by 3 cars. There were the old familiar faces of the hard core members and some new faces to be seen. Overall, it was a good fun meet with the classic line up towards the end.

Thanks to everyone who came along to the show, we had a great time and know you all did too!

And who can miss the famous 206info line up?

For more information on this meet, click the links below:

Stricks thread with some excellent photos from Griff
Carters thread with pics and video

We are soon to be having our now regular summer camping meet, which is on course to beat our record number of attendees once again! For more information on this, visit the site meets section of the forum.
