Hello. Quick question.

Hello. My apologies as my first post is a question. I have a '99 1.6XS and the instrument cluster has given up. It's a pre-plexed car and has a two plug cluster with the oil guage. It seems to be really hard to find a direct replacement. I have found one in France which obviously has the speedo in KM/H. The mileage is almost exactly the same as my old unit and the KM/H doesn't bother me at all as we switched over here to KM/H 10 years ago. Will I run into any problems fitting this unit in my car?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome! First of all I'd like to say that the MPH speedos have KM/H graduation and vice versa. I'm almost certain that the only difference between the two is the vinyl overlay on the dials. If this is correct (Someone will correct me if I'm wrong) then you should be good to go straight out the box. Check the part numbers and plugs before attempting fitting.

Personally I'd say to take a trip down the breaker's yard. IIRC The preplex display won't override the mileage - It might display as a high mileage but if you refit a lower mileage clock then it will go back to the car's actual mileage.

hope this helps.

Hi,

Cheers for the quick reply. I've tried everywhere here for the correct clocks but the only ones I can find are the "non sports" type. I thought that KM ones should work as they are both twin plug and from a '99 car. I think I'll try them. The mileage reading is fine as they are both within 500 miles of each other which I can live with.

Even better. Definitely worth a shot IMO. I'm not sure about yours but I know on the multiplex clocks you can swap the dials over - They're just coloured plastic. That could be an option for you as well. You might just have to try it.
