I replaced the clutch cable and in doing so i had to remove the steering column.
Now the airbag light is on permanently.
Does it need to be reset or do i need to do some fault finding?

cheers

Fix the fault & the light will go out.

Double check the wiring you unplugged especially the connector plugs on back of the airbag.

Did you centre the steering before dismantling?

If you didn't then the rotary cables can be damaged when you steer lock to lock.

FWIW there is no need to remove the steering column to replace the clutch cable.
