Engine temperature gauge not working
-> 206 Problems

#1: Engine temperature gauge not working Author: kieranr91 PostPosted: Thu Jan 10, 2019 8:57 pm

Hi everybody, I’m new here and not totally sure how to use the site yet to see if this has already been covered. I have recently purchased a 2004 206 gti sp, it’s the 136 hp model. I think it’s the RFN engine code but I’m not 100%.

Basically the problem with it is that the engine temp gauge is not working, it moves a tiny bit of the bottom line but no further.

Does anybody know where the sensor is located ? And where to get a new one as I can only seem to find coolant sensors.

It’s the gauge on the right hand side of the speed.

Any help much appreciated thanks Smile

Green coolant sensor on the thermostat housing operates the temp gauge via the ECU.

Euro car parts with the discount code are cheap.

You will be referring to the oil temperature gauge. It won't move much unless the car is driven hard.

That oil temp is also an oil level gauge.

Initially it shows the oil level and then drops back down and then monitors oil temp.

The level sensor is on the BACK of the oil sump .. and the oil pressure switch on the oil filter housing. I'd always check using the dip stick too!

Not sure which one monitors the temperature though .. and for replacements, I'd simply try a Peugeot dealer .. they aren't always that expensive. If you don't have one close they may post them or give you the part numbers if you ask nicely to buy them online.

Unless your dash is different to my old 2002 gti the gauge on the right is oil temp and generally follows water temp ,albeit slower to get up to temperature from cold.
It would usually sit about 90C and only go over 100C if I was sat on a motorway for any length of time.
Oil level is displayed on the odometer when it's first started up, a series of bars, more solid bars the higher the level.
If its not working, assuming the oil level is correct, I'd try cleaning the plug to the sensor first ,if that's no good replace the sensor.

Coolant temp gauge is in the bottom of the rev counter.

Oil temp gauge is the one on the right.

Which gauge are you trying to fault find?
