I was thinking of just fitting spacers but I want to space it out as little as possible

The coilover may be designed with those in mind, or as a multifit across a few Peugeots perhaps(so not 100% compatible)? Can you show us the clearance with some pictures?

sounds like that's probably the cause, assuming the lack of clearance is that close! What coilovers did you order (out if interest)
