I'm having issues with mine at the minute too. My oil level sensor also reads the temperature on the GTi, however mine is currently showing 0 degrees the entire time. I'm not too fussed because most cars don't even have oil temp, but it's still a pain. On the lookout for another sensor.
Don't argue the opinions of idiots.

After a garage did an oil change for some reason the amber oil can indicator is not displaying anymore when the ignition is turned on. And then after a while of driving the oil can is seen flashing red and bleeping. Everything has been checked. The oil pressure checked and is normal. There are no oil leaks and the oil pressure switch has been changed twice. Mechanically everything has been checked and so I believe it is all connected to the amber oil can indicator not on the display, which I think is controlled by the oil level sensor. And suspect the sensor has somehow become faulty. But would like help in confirming my findings.
