#1: Jamie: GTi180 Author: Jamie, Location: Ring y0 PostPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:47 pm
    ----
I had a 2001 1.4 Quiksilver as my first car and quickly got into browsing eGay for various parts and upgrades. Made a few amateur errors such as a gay carbon skinned fibreglass bonnet with gash vent.
However as I got more involved with different forums and started properly getting into the car it started to take shape.
I'd always liked the euro cars and seeing as my little 8 valver wasn't going anywhere fast I decided that I wasn't going to focus on performance and I would just modify it aesthetically... anyway 2 years later and it looked like this;

However I turned 19 and was growing bored of the car, and after having gone on track at FCS09 I knew I wanted to upgrade.
I was looking at RS Clio 172s and Type R's but out of nowhere I was offered a 2004 Aegean Blue GTi180 at little over £3k. It had 2 owners from new, service history, completely standard and 60k miles, and was too good to refuse. So I checked I could afford the insurance, which at 19 wasn't friendly, but worth it!
So a trip to Tamworth secured me this;

However before picking the thing up I was already buying stuff for it! At the start this was small stuff like RC vinyls, and getting the wheels refurbed as well as adding the sp arch extensions and stainless steel mesh grilles;

I also picked up some Keskin KT1s in the hope they may look ball achingly epic;

...but they really didn't suit the look I was going for, and worth far too much just to keep to gather dust in the garage, so they sold to a guy in Ireland at a massive loss seeing as the wheels and tyres cost me well over £1k to put together Sad
Then used the money to purchase some more goodies like a scorpion exhaust and morettes;

At the end of October I sold the Quiksilver which released a wad of cash, that was poured back into the current wip, which I was determined to make more track focused than visually pleasing Smile
The extra money enabled me to take a trip down to Rimstyle to procure some of these bad boys;

With some Toyo T1R tyres. I then focused on the suspension,I had grown tired of the impracticality of wound down coilovers on my last car, so opted for Bilstein B6 dampers with Eibach Sportline springs. For the rear I bought some stupidly expensive Peugeot Sport torsion bars, upgrading from 20mm to 24mm

Quick w**re session with a decent photographer;

Then towards the end of November I decided I would take the plunge and made my way to Adenau!

Definitely the best thing I have done and can't wait to get back out there Smile
When I got back I bought a scangauge to keep an eye on various sensors for me, but disappointed it hasn't got the ability to monitor oil temp! Other than that a great piece of kit;

Anyway here's a few pics of how it stands now;

I have made a few purchases recently that haven't been fitted yet, such as a K&N panel filter, janspeed exhaust, more wheels, GoPro Motorsports Hero HD (via recommendation on here), Alpine IDA X305, and mocal oil filter with stat in sandwich plate;

Unfortunately had a bit of bad luck on the M50 in February and managed to blow out both my passenger side tyres and destroy the wheels, and bizarrely damage my passenger wing mirror. Needless to say I am very confused as to how it happened, as there were no other cars on the road and no barriers/anything else to hit!
Anyway repairs are under way and the car will be back on the road very soon ready for my next planned Nurburgring trip in April!
Also ordered my Jenveys, which arrived and look like this;

Got my brakes through from Kam Racing;

Should all be done ready for FCS!
Got my Morettes on too;

Thanks to Macj I have ordered my cams, Catcams 804!
These have been sent down to Devon already as well as the manifold for Sandy to do some measuring and do some wizardry with them!

Calm down Ross I've bought the same wheels, I toyed with the idea of Turinis or a set of comps but I love the Pro Race too much!

You can repay me with a passenger lap, I'll even record it for you if you want, in HD Wink

It would be yeah, but I have a feeling it'll all be screwed around like it was last year, they don't put people on with the same car club bizarrely. Wish they did.
