#2: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 4:20 pm ---- Why would you weld a gear linkage? :S
#3: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: Sim, Location: West CountryPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 4:24 pm ---- It's the #5 that's snapped off (apparently the self-tap screw can't get back in place so that mechanic decided to weld it):
#4: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 4:29 pm ---- looking at them 3 spots of weld you would have been better off with blue tac
wheres it snapped off at ?
{ EDIT } you reposted as i was relpying
thats the pivet point for the gear linkage and that needs to move so welding it will not help and now seeing as its full of weld the only way to sort it is either a new sub frame or remove that one and grind the weld out and re thread the hole.
you say a mechanic welded it ?
#5: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: Sim, Location: West CountryPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 4:38 pm ---- Probably they chose to weld it as there was no good way to get access to that #71 above.
Snapped at my workplace Remained in the 2nd gear and made all those 30miles home revving and coasting, THAT WAS FUN!
Who knows where it snapped off at, but it was definitely at where they have welded it
#6: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 4:50 pm ---- i'd find a new mechanic as the one you have has made a whole load of expense for you.
as i said the only way to sort that now is either a new sub frame or remove that one and recut the thread but neither is going to be cheap as a fair ammount of work is involved
take it to another garage and see what they say when you tell them a mechanic welded it
#7: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 5:01 pm ---- Is this off the sub frame? I had a similar problem but mine was on a down shift from 4 down to 3 then the pivot point snapped and I over revved........ Big bill. I just got mine wielded up and new gear linkages put on
#8: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: Sim, Location: West CountryPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 5:08 pm ---- Yes, it is off the sub-frame. My one was downshifting from 3rd to 2nd, felt weird, but luckily it went fully into the 2nd, and then snapped (figured out when started to look for the 3rd again, but found none :D)
I should go under and take more pictures of how the pivot link mount post looks like, and whether there is any thread remaining for it.
Thanks for the names of the car parts, now that I could google "pug 206 sub frame" things are getting clearer and clearer
#9: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: Seabook, Posted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 5:14 pm ---- surely that can't be expensive from new?

its the 16mm bolt that's sheared off from the looks of it
#11: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 5:26 pm ---- If you take the battery and battery box out, you should have enough access.
#12: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: anton1989, Location: west midlandsPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 5:28 pm ---- if you need another subframe i have one £20 collection cv11

#14: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2012 6:55 pm ---- That's the 1 cartoonhead that wield on the pivot point cost me over 1k

peugeot used thread lock when they put them in so if it has sheared and left the thread end of bolt in the mount hole it's not going to be fun to get at
you could drop the sub frame , drill a hole in what's left of the bolt and tap a thread for a left hand thread bolt and remove what's left of the orig bolt

#19: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Sun Oct 21, 2012 3:20 am ---- John it over revved my engine as you know there is no limiter on a down shift so I had floating lifter/Piston contact can't u remember my picks I put up of my head/disintegrated piston lol I'll find them out .
No it only cost £20 to get it wielded back up but yours went in the right gear when it snapped mine didn't.

oh yes... i remember that now.
so is the gear lever causing the head rebuild? plain!
#21: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: spike_202, Location: West midsPosted: Sun Oct 21, 2012 9:36 am ---- Well my argument was that the ajustatable gear linkages wasent adjusted/fitted properly and put strain on the pivot point/joint.
they said if it was down to that it was a part you supplied us with that was faulty, I said you should of set it up correctly.... it when back and forth for a number of days in the end I had to just pay for parts for the rebuild and they coverd the labour. but this did mean getting my head re-P&P'd ect so that's why it was expensive any ways that was over 3 years ago so all is forgotten
When they wielded the joint back on the sub frame there was rust around the area so could well of been just the age of the car and 10 years of pivoting just decided to snap off who knows.
I'm jut glad yours has broke off in a better way mine did, just go to any garage/exhaust place and just get them to wield it back on for £20. Even looking at standard ones the fixing looks abut weak.
#22: Re: gear link snapped off again Author: Sim, Location: West CountryPosted: Sun Oct 21, 2012 11:05 am ---- Hya!
Dived deeper today, and that's how it looks like above the sub-frame (when link is in place):
And when I put it out of place by hand:
Real gore!..
Hope some garage can do a decent job on this, if that can be called decent anymore
