This happens (single gear being final drive/output shaft and sun and planet gears) :

The culprit you ask? Me Laughing

This is the gearbox i recently sold falsely believing it was in good working condition!

How?

Through driving too fast, dumping the clutch and im also having a stab in the dark from the car being excessively lowered causing too much pressure on the gears

If you find the answer let me know, might do it to my HDi.

Also still trying to find out if the BE4 6 speed off the EW10 in the 407 will fit the GTi.

Yes mate. I would have liked to have thought i drove a car as low as mine slow, but looking at the evidence. I didnt Laughing

If its a BE4, it will fit. But i have a suspicion that it is a completely restyled BE to house the 6th gearbox compared the gti6 which is slapped on the end of the fifth

Why not slap a GTi final drive in it and drop it to a 3.98 as i think the diesels are closer to 4.1

Oh dear lol, tell you one thing I do not miss the MA box's at all.

I have had a look at some of the 6 speed box's on ebay and from the pictures they do look quite different even the linkages :/ The syncro for 3rd in mine is on it's way out. Doesn't like being thrown into 3rd at speed much anymore. Have seen somebody mention that the BE3/6 gearset will fit the 4 you got any ideas about that? I don't really want to change the gearing I like it how it is, just would like to have it sat below 3K at 70mph would save me wallet a few £.

Its going to be a case of having the boxes side by side.

As i would be intrested in building BE 6 speeds. As from service box, they list the 6 speed casing under BVM ML6 but no actual complete gearbox. It does look very similar to a BE4, but i cant confirm. Dont worry about linkages as worst case you go for the 180 cable set up

Well I have got a spare GTi 137 box kicking about if you need one to play with. Planning on getting my GTi sorted this year with a fair few things. Clutch is getting a bit iffy in it so the box will have to come off at some point anyway. Would be nice if it could go back on with a 6th gear.

And personally I'd rather keep the rod's so I can get a quick shift on it at some point as well.
