On my 2003 1.4 206 i need to change the release/thrust bearing has become noisy so needs replacing.
While the gearbox is off i might as well change the clutch as well as you seem to be able to buy a clutch set that includes a release bearing.
Anyone done this?? Any hints or tips that will make the process run nice and smoothly?

Yes just buy a clutch kit. Euro car parts is the place to get them and sach's is recommended
To get it to go smoothly, get a garage to fit it

LUK for the clutch kit, the clutch kit will come with a new thrust bearing.

So Sach, Valeo or LUK is the manufacturers to go for???
Im fairly compentant when working on cars and have done a number of gearbox/Clutch changes in the past just not on Peugeot's so i think to save myself a few hundred quid ill be doing it myself. If anyone else has had the same inclination and DIY attitude then their experiences would be welcome.

MA box is pretty easy to do a clutch change on.
Good idea to have a some new driveshaft seals & gearbox oil to hand

I was planning on changing the G-box oil anyway as i havent changed it since i bought the car a few months ago and going by the state of the engine oil i reckon the previous owner hadnt either.
Ill stick driveshaft seals on the shopping list as well.
Ive got a clutch alignment tool to make sure its all centered when i tighten it all up but is there any other special tools that may come in handy??
Also do you think just popping the hub off its lower ball joint will give enough play to get the D-shafts out of the box? or is it better to remove the strut from the hub as well?

Popping lower ball joint is good enough but on the 1.4 hdi i found i had to remove the driveshafts completely. It might be wise to look at the gear selecter oil seal too as mine went on both of my 206 and its easy to do with gearbox out.

Definately get some gearbox oil. Make sure it's the right grade.

oh by the way, as a heads up the longer offside driveshaft runs through a mounting on the back of the block. You can take the box off without removing it but I wouldnt reccomend it as you run the risk of damaging the gearbox seal on that side (which, take it from me, means G/box oil everywhere).
Usually I leave the inner CV cups in the box, cant recall if you can do that on the o/s shaft though.

i dunno if u get one in the clutch kit but u will need a clutch alignment tool basicall just makes sure tht the plate goes on all straight without this u will find it hard getting the splines in place and it wont go in

The unipart kits used to include a blue plastic one. I usually do them by eye or stick a 1/2" extension bar in as one, anything lying around that works.

Was planning on taking it off i have done on other cars that ive had the gearboxes off of and that seems to be ok.
I didnt get one in the clutch kit but i have bought a sealey alignment tool will make life easier getting the gearbox back on.
