When I had my car mapped the mechanic said I had a broken MAF

I got a new one and on going to fit it found that the original wasn't plugged in.

I plugged it back in and my ODB2 reader isn't showing a MAF fault but I'm only getting 46MPG even on a long motorway run.

How can I tell if the MAF is broke and causing the high fuel consumption?

Is there anything else that can cause high fuel consumption?

On autotrader stats it says 70mpg was possible. Thought that was a bit ott but thought 60 was possible.

I drove a BMW 320d estate 300 miles towing 1.5 Ton of boat and got 40mpg on the way back without the boat it did 62mpg so thought a little car could do that easy.

Nevermind the fact that 70mph is the speed limit. 3 point's on your license is a lot to pay for a little extra MPG.

Sorry I ment 70. I would never speed on the motorway. I learnt my lesson when I got 3 points for doing 92 and been fined every year for 5 years by the insurance company.
