Thought I could do this within a day, was I wrong..

I've removed my struts several time but the shocks have shortend piston rods so it's easy to get them out. I'm now doing it on standard shocks and there just isnt enough room, the hub is as low as it can go and the strut is still pressed against the top. I don't understand am I missing something?

Ouch Sad didn't realise they would be this much of a ball ache.

I've taken undone all the bolts and removed the steering ball joint but this didn't give any more clearence, I haven't taken the hub off I thought it would be a bit of an overkill. I know when mine got lowered it was removed without that happening and I've done it since on shortend shocks just by undoing the 3 bolts at the top, the one at the bottom and the drop link.

You need to just disconnect the lower arm from hub, The hub wont be removed fully as it will be held in place by driveshaft and the steering rod, it easy getting the strut out but It a ball ache getting the standard sturuts back in lol

Hammer wont do anything, you need to use a metal bar like this:

To get it back on I grease it up and push it back in with a trolly jack pushing it up.

How I do it anyway

You definately need to remove the hub from the ball joint.

This is the best way of doing it. Needs no effort at all and is therefore less likely to damage anything.
