Restarting (after SORN) a GTI 180

My GTI 180 hqs been stood for 2 months now on SORN and I have just got the new tax.

The battery has gone flat and I remember reading somewhere that there is a right and wrong way to start the car with a new battery. Something to do with ecu's etc.??????????

Also I did a similar thing with my XSi (left it for a while) when I turned the key it fired immediately and due to a brief time before the oil got moving it knocked out a big end.

I obviously don't want to do that this time so can someone tell me which is the fuel pump fuse?

I can then crank it over get some oil pressure put the fuse back in and away we go.

No offense meant but I think your being a little over cautious. Cars sit for far longer periods on forecourts with no ill effects. 8 weeks sat and your engine internally will not be bone dry. I would worry more about the method of fitting a new battery to a plex'd system than oil starvation.

Charge the battery up on a very slow charge to 100 percent over a period of a couple of days. Put the battery on in the correct way so you wake the bsi up. Once the bsi is awake than start you car with no blipping on the pedal etc and once started leave it to run for a good half hour so everything circulating etc properly.

I start mine once a week leave it to tick over door 5mins then hold it at 2k for a few mins. If your worried about the oil drain some out and put some back in then it will have some higher up

As for the battery I wouldn't know as mine is pre plex ed so I just leave it off untill i start it up

Leave the handbrake off, chock wheels and leave in gear (2nd if facing downhill and 1st uphill). Start the car once a month for half an hour with varying rpm. If leaving for more than 4 months I'd throw a new battery in for good measure, re mot / tax / insure / whatever and you're good to go.
I personally don't get all this nonsense with soft starting car ECU's e.t.c but that's just me. Make sure you install the battery correctly (removing take negative off first and installing put positive on first) and that should be enough tbh.
