after having 2 new wishbones and 2 new droplinks fitted ( not to mention 2 new tyres , balanced and tracked ) , imagine how p**s*d i was to find oil leaking from the nearside driveshaft.

... on googling and reading some posts on this forum , it seems pretty clear to me that the leak started after the garage replaced the wishbones and droplinks. ( there was no leak before this work was done).

i am assuming that the seal has somehow been damaged , and to have the seal replaced would involve removal of the wishbone etc and having it retracked.

obviously , i would have thought the garage would have been aware of the possibilty of damaging the seal and would have been more careful.

... do you think i have a good chance of getting this seal done for free stating in my opinion it was done whist having the wishbones fitted? .

i would have though to remove the seal you will have to drop the diff and remove the driveshaft.

but i don't think changing the shaft and wishbone would have damage the seal at all

and in fact, changing the wishbone you don't have to touch the shaft Laughing

all i can say is that it was fine under there ( everywhere was as dry as a bone) untill the morning after i had the wishbones and droplinks done.

... they did say it was a bugger to get the old wisbones off , and it needed "some force" .

it was deffo something they had done though , im just at a loss as to how to approach them without me leaving them room to wiggle out of it ?

It the driveshaft seals is leaking, the gearbox should be drained and driveshaft removed, clean up and new seal put in, I'm not 100% wether you will need tracking done again as it should have move things too much but I would renew the gearbox oil too.
If life passes you by...... Shift down!

there's a guide on this forum that shows how to change the wishbones and i noticed this pic

i agree , there is no need to touch the seal , but i noticed this guy had a bit of a leak there too , mine is in the same place .

if he pop out the drive shaft then it is normal to have oil comes out...

and is the oil still leaking?

could be the garage just doesn't clean it up when they pop out the shaft

yea still leaking ( although slight drips ).
i moved the car a few times in the drive way and there's 3 areas of oil spread over 3 days.

im going to take it back to them in the morning and ask them to check if its still leaking , and if so , what they did to cause it.
...im just afraid that they will deny blame and refuse to fix it for free.
...having said that, ive used this firm for years and never had any problems until now.

... well, took it in this morning and all they did was blast an airline around it and told me to give it a few days Shocked

... needless to say, 1 hour in the driveway and there's another puddle of oil.

.. rang them back to tell them ill have no gearbox oil by the time ive "left it a few days" and they are having it in tomorrow morning ... again Evil or Very Mad

... they said " we will need to take a closer look at it" ,.. no sh*t sherlock Twisted Evil

i called around to my local garage and explained to him that id had my wishbones and droplinks done and it came back in this state , before he even looked underneath for me he already knew it was the driveshaft seal.

hes told me to get it back down there asap, demand a new seal, make sure its got new gearbox oil in and demand to see the old seal.

... failing any of the above, get in touch with trading standards.

ill keep you all updated on the out come tomorrow.

... well, turned out it was a knackered driveshaft seal.

they replaced it with a new one , refilled with fresh oil and even put a new cv boot gaiter on as the other was looking "tired".

all done for free , so im a happy bunny now Very Happy

should not need to get the tacking done just need to remove drive shaft and put new oil seal and oil in gear box the garage shod do it for free but may ask for u to pay for oil and seal depending on the garage policy.
