Hi all, newbie on-board here. Have a 1.4 HDi, dropped it off a couple of months ago as the power steering was making a low creaking noise. Was told to get new pipes as I'm leaking steering fluid. Got the new pipes in, fluid topup, all good.
About 3-4 weeks later however I heard strange hissing noise inside the cabin, like gas escaping, kind of like those old soda water spray bottles running out of juice. Spent a couple of weeks at two garages as I thought it was the AC. Turned out that the noise is coming from the steering rack. It never comes up when I start the car first time, comes on later when the engine warms up and it's more prominent when the weather is hot. I can literally hear it at the end of the column when I put my head in the driver side footwell. Had the car lifted yesterday, was told the same that it's from the rack. Funny thing is when the power steering is engaged (ie I'm actively turning the wheel and holding it) it stops making that noise but when the steering is free it comes back again.
One place straight away told me I need to replace my steering pump (it's an independent Peugeot service but I have my doubts about them based on previous dealings) the other place (the one who changed the steering pipes and lifted it yesterday) told me it's probably the steering fluid with some bubbles swirling around and a flush should fix it and if it doesn't I'll probably have to live with it. The steering otherwise works absolutely fine, as it should it's just the weird hissing noise.
Anyone encountered similar issues? Thanks in advance!

I was told by several mechanics my noise was to do with the power steering. Changed the fluid then the pump and it made no difference. Turned out it was the AC clutch bearing. Some videos of the noise:

..........I can\'t help it I just like French cars!

Thanks very much, I checked your thread but mine is different to this. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and do a steering fluid flush and take it from there.
