#1: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: fkismad, Location: Northern IrelandPosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:14 pm ---- Got my first diesel car (2000 206 1.9) and am considering using biodiesel. Ive read up on it and it seems pretty good. Just want to know has anyone ran their 206 on biodiesel and if so was there any problems?
#2: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:21 pm ---- Start off with like 50/50, then move to like 75/25
You have to change the fuel filter more often tho.
#3: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: troy, Location: llanelliPosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:30 pm ---- i wouldnt bother, i work in a garage and have had some cars come in with injector and high pressure fuel pump faults caused by this biodeisel, i wouldnt touch it personally
#4: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:32 pm ---- I wouldnt use it on a commonrail diesel engine, but the old 1.9d will have no problems.
#5: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: troy, Location: llanelliPosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:35 pm ---- the 1.9 isnt common rail? if this is the case it will be a little better but i still wouldnt use it.
#6: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: fkismad, Location: Northern IrelandPosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:38 pm ---- Yeah im in two minds about it, it would save me about £50 a week (if i made it myself) but wouldnt want it to kill my car!
#7: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: qwert, Location: ukPosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 7:06 pm ---- It'll be fine. I've used veggie oil in my tranny van for the last two years and thats been fine, runs slightly queiter as well

If it has a Bosch fuel pump then go ahead & run it on bio.
A 1.9 diesel with a Bosch pump will run on nearly anything oil / diesel based if mixed correctly, just remember the increased amount of filter changes.
If it's a Lucas fuel pump, dont even risk it.

we have found at work that it rots the seals in the diesel pumps etc not cheaper in the long run in my opinion
#10: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Tue Dec 21, 2010 7:30 am ---- I'd just put normal pump diesel in...not worth risking putting anything else in it.
#11: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: longeatonlad, Location: long eaton, derbyshirePosted: Tue Dec 21, 2010 9:53 am ---- i used to run my old 405 derv on a tenner of diesel then filled up to the brim with chip fat, saved me some money but my god did it make you hungry!
#12: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: Jamie1337, Location: Dorchester, DorsetPosted: Tue Dec 21, 2010 1:25 pm ---- I'd put an inline filter in aswell if you're gunna do it, better to be safe than sorry!
#13: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Tue Dec 21, 2010 1:58 pm ---- on common rail engines it does your injectors for sure.... had 6 sets so far on customer cars... they sieze up... pumps normally follow shortly after.
I do plant machinery as well and have had a brand new New Holland Wheel digger with 400 hours on the clock go pop... it was injectors. The owner was using heating oil mixed with red .... cost him nearly 6K
Does that answer your question
#14: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Dec 21, 2010 6:04 pm ---- are they using proper biodiesel or they just put in the chicken and chips oil?

Which can already contain a percentage up to 15% biodiesel in this country don't you know
#16: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: mjsroofing, Location: south walesPosted: Fri Dec 24, 2010 7:43 am ---- i used to use cooking oil of the shelf in tesco's, back when diesel was £1.30 a litre and oil was 75p a litre, use to buy 20 at a time, i had somes looks mind, i mixed it 50/50 and ran fine, on cold mornings it hard to start mind,
#17: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: Becky-C2, Location: KidderminsterPosted: Fri Dec 24, 2010 8:34 am ---- my mate used bio for 18 months never had a problem in his v reg 206 1.9 diesel
#18: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: mjsroofing, Location: south walesPosted: Fri Dec 24, 2010 2:17 pm ---- i recomend having heater fitted, it can blow the seals in the pump, you can get heaters that run off your rad pipes and you can get ones that are electric(for start up)
#19: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: sculptor1, Posted: Sun Nov 25, 2012 6:27 am ---- There seems to be a bit of confusion here between 'biofuel' and 'biodiesel' . Biofuel is any oil which other than filtering hasn't been processed. Biodiesel is oil which has undergone a 'transesterification' process which splits the oil into glycerol (waste) and biodiesel. A Google search will give details. I have used nothing but biodiesel in the 1.9 engine without any problems for the last 72000 miles (5 years). Initially starting with 50/50 and changing the filter at 1000 miles and again at 3000 (the biodiesel cleans out the crap from the tank and lines left by pump diesel NOT the other way around). I use an inline filter as well but have only changed it once out of habit rather than necessity. There is NO noticeable difference in performance and my costs to make my own are approximately 15 pence per litre (but I do have a source of free waste oil, make sure you have a source/ sources before embarking!). A great site for beginners is 'Journeytoforever'. As it's saved me over £12000 I can only say "Go for it"
#20: Re: Anybody use biodiesel ? Author: sculptor1, Posted: Sun Nov 25, 2012 7:01 am ---- As an addition to the above I had the seals in the pump 'uprated' to Viton by 'DieselBob' (another good site. There is a section in the main site titled 'Vegetable Bob' which lists most of the fuel pumps and their suitability (or otherwise) for use with biodiesel and straight vegetable oil. I had the seals changed to 'Viton' which is resistant to bio at the same time as I had my cambelt changed so the difference in cost wasn't a lot. But DO make sure your pump is a Bosch NOT Lucas/CAV which is a definite NO NO.
