#1: TU3 to TU5 engine swap Author: smugpug206, Posted: Thu Jan 12, 2017 2:17 pm ---- Hi sorry to all the Pug experts out there...this is a first time post on here. I know there's been loads of queries about engine swaps & upgrades bla bla bla. I do have very one simple question though as from the research I've done on here so far, it's difficult to get a precise answer to this.
Simply, can a 1.4L TU3 engine, which is pretty much at the end of its life with 180K miles & a weeping head gasket, be pulled out of my 2003 206 & replaced with a 1.6L 8 valve TU5 engine?
To keep the cost down I'd probably just swap over & run with the gearbox off the 1.4. Not bothered about the ratios too much as I don't really do motorway driving. I just wanted to be sure I'd have no problems with engine mounts, gearbox, driveshafts & wiring etc. I read somewhere that I might need the ECU for the 1.6? And to avoid the 16V or I'd need to replace the entire loom?
Any input or assistance much appreciated. Thanks lads !!

Helps keep DVLA & insurance company happy.

I was only thinking about a TU5 if going to the bother if an engine change and maybe getting a bit of extra poke into the bargain if there wasn't much in it expense wise. I'm not all that hectic about shoving loads more fuel into it though. My driving is all country lane and I wouldn't exactly be hanging about. The 1.4 is seriously giving me 50mpg+....I've calculated it

My understanding was that the tu3 and 5 blocks were pretty much the same. It would be taken out of another 206 of around the same year....that's all I can say at this stage. I just wondered was it a straight forward job is all. Based on the feedback re fuel economy, and for the avoidance of drama, I think play it safe with another tu3 is the way to go.
