my heater fan comes on and off as it pleases ,but stays off alot more than on ,even if i set the fan control to max ,in the cold mornings i have to have the window open to stop it steaming up ,it might come on 10 mins after ive started driving for 20 seconds then go off again ,or stay on for ages then stop, even if i turn the heat to max it does nothing, its a 2000 model gti with the electronic a/c panel, Shocked thanks

Up in the passenger footwell there should be a big plug with loads of wires in it. give it a wiggle see if it comes on. Sounds similar to mine and thats what the problem was. I just tapped the wires up in a place which they worked. over 2 years and its fine now.
