Hi Everyone,

Well, I'm new to this site, so hi to all.

I have a Peugeot 206 1.4LX 3dr AC model on a 51 plate.

I have been having some intermittent problems, which tend to occur when the weather is foggy,misty or damp. When the weather is dry and fine, or cold no problem what so ever, car starts and runs okay.

A few people I know have said that the damp weather gets into the electrical connections and to use WD40 to drive out dampness, which I did, but it didn’t really help including using vasline on the battery terminal points. I mean, there are so many connections in the engine, wouldn’t be near impossible to determine which one the damp may be getting into. I’ve even put duct tape around some visible connections as a barrier to the elements, and tonight a towel over the engine and points just incase - of course I'll take it out before starting and hopefully running the car in the morning Smile

In this kind of noted weather above, the car will turn over and start, tick over for up to ten minutes as normal, then it will cut out. Thereafter, turning the key in the ignition will result in the car turning over then cutting out. Sometimes it will run for a short while then cut out. Sounds like the car wants to run but something is restricting it from running, as if….ummm…there was no fuel getting to the carb, which is obviously not the problem as it starts on normal dry days.

After leaving the car for a few hours it will usually be okay, except last Friday when the weather stayed damp all day and even after work it wouldn't start.

Just wondered if anyone new of an obvious fault which may be causing this, like maybe the following;

Damp getting into the leads of the ignition system?
Distributor cap?
Spark plugs?
Ignition Coil?

This is really doing my head in, as its becoming so unpredictable. Luckily I'm on a main bus route so work is fine.

So if anybody can shed some light on the this, I would be so grateful.

There's no carb, its multipoint fuel injection.

You also wont find a distributor cap under the bonnet or any HT lead either.

Remove the electrical connector plugs from the engine ecu, give the connector plugs & the sockets a good spray of contact cleaner, see if there's any manky looking silicone grease in there, if there is it needs to be cleaned out Wink

Hi MrBSI, Thanks for the info. Electrical connector plugs to the ECU, does this not cause a problem by removing the plugs?? Do you know of a contact cleaner thats best to use? Thanks

Just make sure you disconnect the battery in the correct way, that suits your electric system [click my sig for more details] Just go into Maplins and pick some up. They'll give you some advice if you're unsure.
