Bugger so the compensator is built into the axle itself not the brake caliper ?

Why not heed the advice of people that know what they're talking about?? Whats the point of not having the abs just because its a 'newer' axel... In reality anything could go wrong straight away regardless of the age. Also wouldn't it be cheaper to get a slightly older one? And the abs is linked to the brakes not axel.
My opinion anyway, as i dont think itll improve the performance in anyway. Well upto you mate.

my git axle got no compensator.
there is always loads of disc axle on ebay.
you could always just swap the axle tube only, that would solve everything

Age has nothing to do with it anyway I would be more interested in the mileage it has done.

Incorrect.
I beam on a car that has sat up for years will be worse than a beam from a car that has been used.

Ill wait until the 2004 year axle comes for my 2000 GTI and get the mechanic to look on Monday I can see the ABS pump with the six pipes coming off it but not sure where u can see the compensators ? Its just a hydraulic driven pump as far as im concerned but it definatley works as the lights goes away when i start ignition ...
