Hi all,
New to the site and to 206s. Had four 306s tho! I've got a 306 Rallye as a weekend car but Im in need of a new daily. We've gotten a dog recently so I want a flat load bay and the car will do 25,000 miles a year so I want good mpg, and I wanted £35 road tax too boot. Not a lot of cars fit this bill for under my £3,000 budget. I'm thinking a 55/06 verve sw 1.4 hdi.
What I was wondering was what everyone's experiences were? Preferably with this exact engine and sw combo.
How big is the load area? (Anyone got any pics?), how economical is the engine? (Anyone tracking this properly using spritmonitor or similar?), how reliable are they? (For a peugeot! Ha) is the performance really that bad? Do they respond well to remap?
Is there any common faults?
Is it true you can't get a model with cruise control?
Any further comments on them really?

my advices is do not get the 1.4Hdi.
if you want a SW get the 2.0HDi, yes you will have to pay a lot more road tax but both the engine and the gearbox is stronger than the 1.4HDi.

The 1.4 offers significantly better fuel economy as well tho...

i can easily do over 60mpg on motorway with my tuned 2.0 HDi. 1.4HDi will be above 70mpg.
the turbo on the 1.4 HDi tends to fail quite early (small turbo but high pressure+non-intercooled); common head gasket problems; and not to mention the engine power....very slow car.

The 2.0 HDI has proven time & again to be bullet proof, it is easily the best diesel engine option in the 206.

agree with the above on the 206, had mine remapped and intercoolered and easily pull 56/57 mpg without trying, if i try for economy can hit 62ish easily

put it this way, i have no major mechanical problems throughout my 6 year ownership of a 206 2.0 HDi (X reg)

My 1.4 hdi has done 30.000 miles in 10 months and not skipped a beat 124,000 miles turbo pulls spot on and gearbox is smooth. The 1.4 hdi myths are bulls**t. Cracking little car. Not the most
Powerful but enough pull for hills and overtaking.

So a fair bit of abuse and all stop start town driving
Still get 90 miles to a tenner.

I guess it's a bit of luck of the draw! Sounds like your regular French car! What's the weak points to look out for?

Rear axles are absolute crap. But that's across the range not just 1.4 hdi

When mine went it sounded like the back end was knocking it's nuts off. Almost like two flat tyres. You'll be able to tell it just doesn't feel right. Especially over bumpy roads and rough tracks. Easiest solution is a new axle which is £250 for a refurbished one or I took a risk and got a used one for £80 however it is a risk that it'll be just as bad. It's safer with a refurb. Mine has been okay since
Touch wood but if it goes again I'll get a refurbed.
Fitting wise I don't know as I did it myself with a hydraulic lift and an hour it was done. Not a complicated job but I can imagine it's very difficult on just axle stands. A garage should have it changed relatively quickly.
