hi there,
i keep having the issue whereby my car needles on the speedo are sticking e.g the fuel needle will raise
and then i suddenly have a cut out in power to actually start the engine.
it does seem to be able to be rectified if i disconnect the baterry and then re-conect it and the engine will then start when i turn the ignition.
has anyone else experienced this before
could this be an alternator problem?

check the earthing point connected to the battery,and if you have a multimeter check the voltage of your battery when you start it,if it reads 8-9 Volts,then you need a new battery.

thanks so much guys....
have had this on a few occasions after ive been on a good run tho with the sub an amp connected up
and put it down to them draining the battery....
though i have got a battery charger, is it worth giving the battery a bit of a boost with this?? as i thought agood run out would sustain the sub and amp useage....
i take it its the battery head connector points that i should give a quick clean and rub down?

No.
Anything bellow 12.25V means the battery has had it.

nothing to do with the amp/battery, it is due to the loosen connection...

It doesnt necessarilly mean the batteries had it and you need to buy a new one, when i first brought my car the battery was flat to the point it was reading 3v. I then charged it the following day put back on the car and was fine. And even after the car not being used for 4 months and going flat again, since using the car regulary ive not had a problem since.
So its always worth charging the battery up and trying it again. Obviously though if it goes flat within a few days and no problem is found with the alternator or earthing points then it points to a new battery.

Yes obviously if you leave the car standing for months it could fall to 3V or even less.
But for a normal-run car and with the alternator working properly (13.5V+) it should not fall
below 12.25 even after weeks of non-use.
Otherwise the capacity has fallen to the point of being useless.

i have never ever seen this before lol
it must have sit on the shelf for few years? lol
mine sit still for 4 months still got 11.9v lol

You had no load sitting it on the shelf.
Some cars have clocks, alarms, BSi listening for keys etc.
Still, 3V means there's something very wrong there I agree. Even after months.

Yeh i was as surprised as you about how low the reading was, i brought the car off a family friend with no mot tax etc, and was told the last decent run it had was a whole year before i brought it.
I think the only reason why its still going strong is that its a Varta battery so not your cheap £20 battery from a local motor factor.

no wonder they put 5 year warrantly on their battery.
always worth to paid a bit more!
