I don't think there is a way to check the level apart from drain the lot and refill to the correct amount

Fill / level plug on the side of the gearbox, not sure if its still fitted on the later MA box.

I think the 1.4 models have a filler plug on the end of the box ... but I'm not 100% sure if the petrol box is same as diesel box like ours. There has to be one though ... otherwise how do you fill them up after draining it (or loosing oil because the drive shaft pulls out when replacing the wishbone ... been there, got the T-shirt! Wink

Normal way is to take filler plug out and top up slowly until it runs back out the plug hole. The car HAS to be level though and this isn't easy when you have to take the n/s wheel off to get to the gearbox! Not the greatest design in the world! Rolling Eyes

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

I have a whirring noise coming from my car occasionally which I thought it was the gearbox so I replaced the oil by draining and filling through the breather hole, it takes 2 litres. I couldn't find a level/fill hole.
